Tip of the Week – Getting Started with Twitter

Twitter is a wonderful social media platform that allows you to share messages with others in a short and rapid way. It also allows you to plug into several different communities and follow trends, and other businesses.

If you are new to twitter, here are a few tips to get you started off in the right direction. You can watch the video, or read below for more information

What is a tweet?

A ‘tweet’ is a 140 character message that you can share from your own profile. You will see a place on your profile dashboard right under your profile picture for where you can type and share information with the public and people you know.

Why tweet in the first place?

If you are doing this for business, this is a great medium to share news about your company. This will be the main medium to help promote events, drive traffic to your blog, and showcase what your company is doing. Tweeting is a very powerful way to tell the world what your business is doing.

What is retweeting?

A retweet is sharing what someone else said on Twitter with the rest of your followers. There is an option below every tweet that allows you to repost that tweet so others can see it.

Why retweet?

Retweeting what someone else said is an effective way to share more information that is relevant to you and your business. It helps add more content to your feed and it builds rapport with your followers by sharing what they said.

What is a hashtag?

A hashtag is essentially a keyword that groups particular topics together. You can add a hashtags to your tweets or you can search for topics to read about by clicking on a hashtag.

Why look or use hashtags?

Monitoring hastags is a great way to keep up on a topic that is happening in your business or in the world around you. It’s also a great way to associate your tweets with particular topics, thereby gaining you more visibility for more followers and to build your social authority among your industry.

In short, these basic things will help you get started in the right direction.
